.::. Pokémon Gold & Silver / Status Problems .::.
Burn (BRN) - This is a serious status problem that reduces your Pokémon's Attack power by 1/2. It also causes your Pokémon to lose an amount of HP every turn. In Red/Blue/Yellow, 1/16th of your total HP will be taken off. In Gold/Silver/Crystal, it is 1/8th of HP.
Burn is inflicted by most Fire attacks, with a 9.8% chance. In Pokémon Stadium, Fire Blast has a 29.7% chance of burning the opponent. Ho-oh's attack, Sacred Fire has a 49.6% chance of burning. Fire Spin does not Burn any Pokémon.
Frozen (FRZ) - This status problem can be very dangerous, as your Pokémon cannot move until an item is used, or if the opponent strikes you with fire, or with a special attack. Freeze does not affect stats or do damage, but it prevents the Pokémon from making attacks. Flame Wheel and Sacred Fire will cause the ice to melt if your frozen.
In Gold/Silver/Crystal, being Frozen is just like Sleep that it wears off after 1 to 8 turns.
Freeze is caused by most Ice attacks, with a 9.8% chance. Icy Wind does not Freeze.
Paralyze (PRZ) - This status problem has two effects. 3/4 of the Pokémon's Speed is taken off, and
All Electric attacks can Paralyze, most with a 9.8% chance. Thunder and Spark have a 29.7% chance of paralysis, and Zap Cannon is guaranteed if it hits.
Thunder has a 9.8% chance of Paralysis in Pokémon Stadium 2. Thunder wave, Stun Spore and Glare don't do damage, but they are
guaranteed to Paralyze if the attacks connect. Other attacks that have 29.7% paralysis rates, including Lick, Body Slam and Dragonbreath.
Sleep (SLP) - This status problem is so dangerous, that it has been restricted in official battles. Only one Pokémon may be put to Sleep at a time.
That Pokémon must awaken or fainted before another can be put to sleep, otherwise the opponent loses by default. Sleep can last from 1 to 8 turns, during which time, your Pokémon
cannot attack. The only moves can be used are Sleep Talk and Snore. Moves Dream Eater and Nightmare can
only be used on Sleeping Pokémon.
Spore is the best Sleep move, with 99.6% accuracy. Sleep Powder and Lovely Kiss are 74.6% accurate. Hypnosis has only 59.6% accuracy, and Sing is the worst with 54.7%.
Rest causes your Pokémon to sleep for two turns no matter what, but it restores full HP and cures any status problems. None of these sleeping attacks damage any opponents.
Poison (PSN) - Poisoned Pokémon lose 1/8th their max HP each turn, 1/16th in Red/Blue/Yellow, and also take a point of damage every four steps out of battle. Toxic can
starts at 1/16th in all versions, but the damage done doubles as time wears on. Switching, however,
will cause it to revert to normal Poison.
Poison can be inflicted by a variety of methods. Poison Gas with an accuracy of 54.7%, Poisonpowder with 74.6%, and Toxic with 84.4%.
Twineedle is a Bug type attack that has a 19.9% chance of inflicting Poison. Poison Sting, Sludge, and
Sludge Bomb are all damaging attacks that have a 29.7% chance of Poisoning. Smog has a 39.8% chance.
Confusion - Confusion is not considered a status problem because it does not change your status. Also, your Pokémon can be
Confused as well as Burnt, Paralyzed, and with all the other problems. Once Confused, your Pokémon has a 50% chance of hitting itself. No matter what
the attack, if your Pokémon hits itself, it does damage to itself with a Power of 40 from a Physical attack that
It doesn't get Critical Hits. Confusion lasts from one to four turns.
While switching can remove Confusion, you're still giving your opponent a free hit. Confusion is inflicted by Confuse Ray, with an accuracy of
99.6%, Swagger with 89.5%, Sweet Kiss with 74.6%, and Supersonic with 54.6%. Damaging moves that carry Confusion sideaffects
include Confusion and Psybeam, that causes confusion 9.8% of the time. Dizzy Punch causes confusion 19.9% of the time, but Gold/Silver/Crystal only. Dynamicpunch
is guaranteed confusion, if it hits. In addition, Petal Dance, Thrash and Outrage will Confuse the user for one turn after they have finished their attack. Equipping a
Pokémon with the Berserk Gene will cause it to be permanently Confused in Gold/Silver/Crystal, and even raises attack, but on Pokémon Stadium 2, the
confusion will wear off in 1 to 4 turns.
